Barye's hare on the look out

More information

This hare, carved by the sculptor Antoine – Louis Barye, (1796 – 1875) in the middle of the 19th century, is a masterpiece in which all the talent of the artist is expressed.

Well – known for this talent in romantic sculptures, Barye studied with Antoine Gros and Eugène Delacroix.  Under their influence, he made his first animal sculptures, such as the « Lion crushing the snake » in 1832, an allegory of the royal power crushing the 1830 revolution.

All along his career, Barye made masterpieces of anatomical acurateness, expressing movements and characters in a perfect way. His works may be seen in worldwide museums, such as the Louvre, Orsay Musuem and other foreign museums.

Benneton editions propose a new bronze cast of this masterpiece, signed Barye on the terrace and stamped with Benneton signature underneath, numbered on 500 copies. The delicate chiselling and the nice shades of the brown patina are particularly well done.
